Stewardship

What is Stewardship? 

Stewardship is a way of life acknowledging our dependence on God for all that we are and all that we have. 

A steward is a person who is entrusted with the management of property, finances and other affairs not owned by the person. 

In the context of the Church, a steward manages things given to him or her by God.  Time, talents and treasure are things given by God to all people.  How these things are managed depends on one’s way of life. 

As a disciple of Christ, the steward manages these things so as to show gratitude to God for them, to be accountable for them, to share them with others, and to return them to God at an increased value. 

Often, only the management of treasure has been presented as stewardship in the Catholic Church.  That is only a part of stewardship.  The management of time and talents is equally important.
