Archives & Records

The principle mission of the Office of Archives and Records of the Diocese of Peoria is to collect, preserve, and provide access to documents of the Diocese for future generations. The Archives is a private diocesan repository serving the Bishop and parishes of the Diocese. Sacramental records for legal or church purposes only are researched as permitted by canon law, civil law, and privacy concern.

The office of archives does not conduct genealogy research. The parishes still have their proper sacramental registers and can look up the information. Also many helpful physical and online resources are available for the researchers. Among the best are considered and recommended public libraries and historical/similar societies with their wealth of old newspapers and obituaries.

Over the years, you may have acquired some historical items, such as antique books, photographs, or other items of historical value. If you would like to donate them or dispose of them in a respectful manner, rather than discarding them, please contact the archives for assistance.
