Founded in 1995, Faith Community Nursing has evolved over time into the program of excellence that is today. Throughout its history, the Faith Community Nursing program has been blessed with the leadership and inspiration of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. Countless men and women selflessly use their talents and share their faith in Christ through this program to enrich the lives of others.

The mission of Faith Community Nursing is:

• To challenge the nursing profession to reclaim spiritual dimensions of nursing care.
• To challenge the health care system to provide whole person care.
• To challenge the faith community to revitalize its healing mission.

The mission of the OSF Faith Community Nursing program is to create an ecumenical partnership between the medical center and congregations throughout the greater Tri-County area.  Through this program the faith community parishioners are invited, assisted, and empowered to become active partners in the management of personal resources.  The Faith Community Nurse program supports the church’s healing ministry by promoting wellness of body, mind, and spirit.  Faith Community Nursing services are designed to build on the strengthening capabilities of individuals, families, and congregations to care for one another in light of their relationship with God and their faith traditions.

To accomplish this mission, it provides a training program using standardized curriculum developed by the International Parish Resource Center along with assistance in the implementation and sustainability of all faith community nursing programs located in the community.  With this faith foundation and passion for excellence, their nurses will be able to make a difference in the world around them as witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ.
