Emmaus Procession (Quad Cities)
October 8 | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Emmaus Procession began with Jesus and two disciples. Luke’s Gospel tells us “That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.”
We will recreate this in a Eucharistic procession. Jesus, present in the Eucharist, though in a hidden way, will walk with us in reality. As we are walking, scripture that points to Jesus, especially in the Eucharist will be read, just as Jesus “beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” There will be stops along the way at local parishes so those that need a shorter route or cannot walk can still participate. We walk that “our hearts burn within us while he talks to us on the road, while he opens to us the scriptures.” Like the disciples we say “Stay with us” The morning will conclude with Mass, just as it did when Jesus made himself “known to them in the breaking of the bread.”
Come walk with Jesus.
This will be a beautiful event with both dioceses together adoring Jesus alongside our bishops, Bishop Zinkula and Bishop Tylka. Save the date, more details coming soon. For more information visit EmmausQC.com.
